Premature grey hair is defined as graying of hair before the age of 20 years in Caucasians and before 30 years in Africans.
It can severely affect the self-esteem of an individual when you do not know the source of your premature grey hair. So here are five reason for premature grey hair;
Stress
It can be said that every Nigerian goes through stress in one way or another. For some, stress has been proven medical to be the cause of premature grey. So observe yourself and know why some thing are happening to your hair. However, certain researchers have proven that stem cells in the hair follicles get depleted during stressful events and this leads to grey hairs.
Lack of Vitamins
Atimes when you lack certain vitamins in your body, it can lead to the production of premature grey hair. Vitamin B-6, B-12, biotin, Vitamin D and Vitamin E are essential vitamins your body needs that help with hair colour and growth.
Hereditary
Having premature grey hair can be hereditary, meaning it is in your gene and passed down unto you.
Autoimmune Disorders
Premature graying of hair occurs more commonly without any underlying pathology but is said to be inherited in autosomal dominant pattern. Premature graying has been shown to be associated with a few of the autoimmune disorders.
Smoking
Smoking constricts blood vessels, which can reduce blood flow to hair follicles and cause hair loss. Additionally, toxins in cigarettes can damage parts of your body including your hair follicles, causing early white hair.
