Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president of Nigeria, has fired back at President Bola Tinubu, insisting that he did not lose the 2023 presidential election. Atiku claims that the election was manipulated by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and that he would have done better if he had emerged as president.
The controversy began when Atiku criticized Tinubu’s policies, prompting a response from Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s media aide.
Onanuga stated that Nigeria would have been worse off under Atiku’s leadership, and that Nigerians rejected him by voting for Tinubu.
Atiku swiftly responded, saying, “Let me emphasize that the citizens who cast their votes in the 2023 presidential election are well aware that I did not lose; rather, we find ourselves in this predicament because the election was criminally stolen from the Nigerian people.”
Atiku also addressed the contentious tax reform bills proposed by Tinubu, arguing that taxing the already struggling populace would only exacerbate the economic crisis.
He cited examples of countries like the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Monaco, which have achieved economic success through lower taxation.
“We cannot hope to tax our way out of the economic quagmire wrought by these misguided experimental policies of a novice administration,” Atiku said.
“Why then are we fixated on inflicting further hardship upon an already struggling populace? One can only speculate that Tinubu’s government is anchored to a mere Tea-plan, which can only lead to a T-pain.”
