India’s Prime Minister Set to Visit Nigeria

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Nigeria.
His upcoming visit to Nigeria is a significant milestone in India’s broader engagement with Africa, scheduled ahead of the G20 Summit in Brazil on November 18-19. This visit aims to fortify strategic and economic ties with African nations, emphasizing enhanced security cooperation and trade relations.
India and Nigeria have a rich history of cooperation, with India being one of Nigeria’s largest trading partners in Africa. Their bilateral annual trade turnover exceeds $3 billion, with India’s exports to Nigeria showing a healthy upward trend.
The two nations have collaborated in defense, training, and capacity building, including the establishment of Nigerian military institutions with India’s assistance.
The visit is expected to yield new bilateral agreements and bolster collaborative efforts in areas such as Strengthening cooperation to combat terrorism and insurgency, Enhancing defense ties through training, capacity building, and joint exercises, and  Expanding trade relations and investment opportunities
India is Nigeria’s leading investor, with an investment base of about $20 billion. The country is also Nigeria’s largest trading partner, with a total bilateral trade of $14.95 billion during the year 2021-22. Indian exports to Nigeria during the period 2021-22 were $4.66 billion, while imports from Nigeria recorded $10.29 billion.
