Israel’s military has continued its attacks on the Gaza Strip, killing at least 40 Palestinians despite a recently announced ceasefire deal.
According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli military intensified its attacks on Gaza following the announcement of the ceasefire deal.
The killings occurred as the Israeli cabinet prepared to vote on the deal.
Hamas official Izzat al-Risheq stated that the deal meets all of the Palestinian group’s conditions, including the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, the return of displaced people to their homes, and a permanent end to the war.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed gratitude to US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump for their role in advancing the agreement. Netanyahu praised their “assistance in advancing” an agreement to end “the suffering of dozens of hostages and their families”.
The conflict in Gaza has resulted in devastating losses, with at least 46,707 Palestinians killed and 110,265 wounded since October 7, 2023.
