The Kaduna State Branch of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNMW) has officially called off its indefinite strike action that began on October 2nd, following successful negotiations with the Kaduna State Government.
A meeting on Thursday, October 24, between the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, union leaders, and key government officials led to the suspension of the strike. Attendees included the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, and Commissioner of Health.
The governor directed a committee on Labour matters, chaired by his deputy, to expedite negotiations on the new minimum wage with Labour unions within seven days and submit a report for implementation. Health workers’ demands will be considered in these negotiations.
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives issued a circular directing nurses and midwives to resume duties starting 12 PM on Friday, October 25, 2024. The circular was signed by Public Relations Officer and Acting Secretary Conrade Yashi G. Nassa.
Kaduna State’s health workers are expected to return to their posts.
