Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has donated N100 million to victims of the recent fire disaster at Kantin Kwari Textile Market.
This was released in a press Statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
During a sympathy visit to the market, Yusuf clarified that the donation wasn’t intended to compensate for losses but rather to mitigate the damage.
“The donation is not meant to compensate you, but to support the affected traders and alleviate their suffering,” Yusuf emphasized.
The governor also pledged to enhance market conditions by installing solar lights, rehabilitating the road network, constructing drainages, and providing motorized boreholes.
He reassured traders of the state government’s dedication to maintaining Kano’s status as Northern Nigeria’s and surrounding West African countries’ commercial hub.
The Managing Director of the Kantin Kwari Market Management Board, Hamisu Nama, reported that 29 shops were destroyed in the fire but expressed gratitude to firefighters and good Samaritans for their swift response.
Market Elders Committee Chairman Sabu’u Bako thanked the governor for his concern and requested assistance in resolving ongoing operational issues.
