Ten individuals who were traveling by sea and were kidnapped along the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterway earlier this week have successfully regained their freedom.
The abduction occurred on Monday, September 2, prompting a pledge from the police authorities to investigate the incident and rescue the victims.
On Saturday, a reliable source confirmed to Channels Television that the victims had been released.
According to the source, the abductors abandoned the 10 travelers when they became aware that operatives from the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Bonny were actively searching for them.
An insider at FOB Bonny, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the base had been tracking the kidnappers since the incident was reported.
The intense intelligence-gathering efforts led to the kidnappers fleeing and abandoning their captives along the Onne channel.
After their release, the victims were taken to the FOB for medical checkups to ensure their well-being.
Following the medical examinations, they were reunited with their relieved families.
Although neither the Navy nor the Police has issued an official statement regarding the rescue, both agencies have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against sea pirates operating in the vicinity, aiming to prevent such incidents in the future.
