Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has officially given his approval for a new minimum wage of 72,500 Naira for civil servants in the state, effective immediately.
The Governor also suspended the tax burden on this approved sum for a period of one year
During the unveiling ceremony of the new minimum wage, Governor Ododo announced this significant development after signing the agreement.
He stressed the importance of prompt implementation to alleviate the economic challenges currently faced by civil servants.
“I am committed to ensuring that this new minimum wage is not only implemented promptly but also sustained in the long term,” Governor Ododo emphasized.
He further highlighted the need for continuous dialogue and collaboration between the government and labour to address any issues that may arise.
The Governor reassured the public that the state government remains dedicated to improving employee welfare and creating a conducive working environment for all.
Mr. Elijah Evenemi, Chairman of the Minimum Wage Committee, described the agreement as “a victory for the people, rather than any political party.”
He expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for granting the committee the autonomy to work towards achieving a common goal.
“The approval of this new minimum wage demonstrates the government’s commitment to the well-being of its employees,” Mr. Evenemi added.
