The Kuwait General Department of Criminal Investigation in Ahmadi Governorate has arrested two Nigerian nationals for their alleged involvement in a daring robbery at an exchange office in Mahboula, a district in the southern part of Kuwait City.
According to a statement released by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior, the suspects were apprehended within a 24-hour timeframe following the robbery. The ministry revealed that the suspects had meticulously planned the crime, closely monitoring the exchange offices from nearby rooftops to identify peak times and maximize their chances of success.
A video of the robbery, posted on the Arab Times Online website, shows one of the suspects, clad in a hooded top, exiting a white car and entering the exchange office. Once inside, the suspect is seen brandishing a gun and intimidating the exchange office staff.
The suspects allegedly made off with foreign currencies equivalent to 4,600 Kuwaiti Dinars, valued at approximately $14,918.69. The suspects used stolen license plates on the vehicles involved in the operation.
One of the suspects, who was arrested in Mahboula, reportedly confessed to surveying the location and informing his accomplice when the office was clear of customers. The second suspect was apprehended in the Al-Qurain Market, and a search of his residence yielded the stolen money, as well as a small bag containing the narcotic substance “crystal meth.”
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior has confirmed that the suspects and seized items have been referred to the public prosecution for further legal action.
