Benjamin Ogba, a headteacher in Lagos, has been sentenced to two life sentences for defiling two seven-year-old girls.
Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court delivered the verdict, stating that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The judge condemned Ogba, labeling him a “serial paedophile” and criticizing his testimonies as “a pack of lies.”
She emphasized that Ogba, as a headteacher, was expected to teach morals, but instead, he exploited his position to commit heinous crimes
Soladoye praised the survivors for their courage in speaking out against their assailant and urged parents to report sexual abuse cases to the authorities.
She stressed the importance of continuous education and awareness to advocate for young children’s rights.
During the trial, the prosecution presented three witnesses, while the defense called four.
The prosecution alleged that Ogba defiled the girls at Shalom Private School in Lagos between April and May 2019. One of the girls reported the incident to her mother, leading to the case being reported at the police station.
Similar cases have been reported in Lagos, including the conviction of Chukwu Ndubuisi, a teacher who defiled a six-year-old pupil
The Lagos State Government has taken steps to address this issue, including registering Ogba’s name in the sex offenses register.
