Lagos Police Meet Stakeholders Over October 1 Protest

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, held a town hall meeting with stakeholders and security agencies at the Ikeja headquarters to address the upcoming October 1 protest. The protest, dubbed “FearlessInOctober” by the Take It Back Movement, aims to continue the nationwide rally against “bad governance” and hunger that began in August.
The objective of the protest is to demand an end to anti-poor policies and unite Nigerians in the fight for survival.
The protest is organized by the Education Rights Campaign (ERC) and other organizations. The previous 10-day rally in August did not meet its demands, prompting the October 1 protest. The protest will take place on October 1, 2024, marking Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary.
Notably, Hassan Taiwo, National Coordinator of the Education Rights Campaign and one of the protest organizers, was invited to the meeting but couldn’t attend due to late notification.
In a separate development, Kayode Babayomi, chairman of the African Action Congress in Oyo, was invited to a “peace meeting” with the Assistant Commissioner of Police.
The Lagos State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Olanrewaju Ishola, is engaging stakeholders in a town hall meeting to address concerns. Meanwhile, in Oyo, the police have invited AAC chairman Kayode Babayomi for a peace meeting on September 28, 2024.
The letter read, “The Oyo State Police Command, in line with its constitutional security responsibilities, is committed to excellence in achieving a safe and secure environment for peaceful coexistence in the state.
It is in light of the above that you are respectfully invited to a peace meeting with the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
The protest, scheduled to be held as Nigeria marks 64 years of independence on October 1, has been dubbed “FearlessInOctober” by the Take It Back Movement.
