The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the release of nine protesters arrested during the #FearlessInOctober demonstrations on October 2.
Commissioner of Police Olarenwaju Ishola ordered their release after meeting with protest organizer Omoyele Sowore at his office.
According to police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the release was directed by Ishola to foster cooperation between law enforcement and civil society organizations.
“In the spirit of camaraderie and bolstering trust between the police and civil society organisations, CP Ishola has directed that the persons arrested on October 2 for causing a breach of public peace under the guise of protesting be granted bail with immediate effect,” Hundeyin stated.
The protesters were arrested at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota for allegedly breaching public peace. Ishola assured residents that the Lagos State Police Command prioritizes their safety and security.
During the meeting with Sowore, Ishola directed the immediate release of the detained protesters, who were subsequently handed over to Sowore.
Ishola reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting the public, stating that the Lagos State Police Command under his leadership will continue to prioritize residents’ safety and security at all times.
