A Nigerian soldier, Sergeant Saad Adamu, has been seized over the alleged possession of illegal munitions in Borno State.
The soldier with service number 05NA/56/385, was purportedly found with 485 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and 2 magazines disguised in cartons of dry fish.
To continue his gunrunning activities, Sergeant Adamu, who is assigned to the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, left his unit in Jos, Plateau State, and traveled to Maiduguri without authorization.
He acknowledged working with Sergeant Dalhatu Murtala 07NA/60/0940, the Army’s armorer for the 19 Brigade Garrison, when he was apprehended. In actuality, Sergeant Adamu told investigators that the ammo was delivered to him by Sergeant Murtala.
After that, Murtala was taken into custody in the general operation area along Baga Road.
