The Ogun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leaders’ Forum has condemned the murder of Adeleke Adeyinka, the party’s councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government in the forthcoming November 16 local government elections.
Adeyinka, a 40-year-old transport union worker, was brutally killed by suspected cultists at Jide Jones area, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta on Saturday at approximately 12:00 pm.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived in a tinted car, and one of them stepped out and shot Adeyinka at close range. To ensure his demise, the attacker smashed Adeyinka’s head before fleeing the scene with his accomplices.
The APC Youth Leaders’ Forum expressed their outrage and deep sadness in a statement signed by Kabir Odedairo, Youth Leader of Abeokuta South Local Government, and Timothy Odedina, Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Youth Leaders’ Forum.
“We strongly condemn this senseless and horrific act, which has left our community shaken and grieving,” the statement read.
“The fact that Adeleke was shot and stoned to death by unknown assailants in a tinted car is particularly disturbing and warrants immediate attention from law enforcement agencies.”
Adeyinka was described as a promising young leader and dedicated party member who served as the youth leader of Ward 15 in Abeokuta South.
“As a forum, we demand a thorough investigation into this heinous crime and call on the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served,” the statement continued. “We also urge the police to increase patrols and security measures in the affected areas to prevent further violence.”
The forum extended condolences to Adeyinka’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred around 12:30 pm.
“A concerned citizen reported that unknown individuals, believed to be cultists, arrived in an unregistered Toyota Corolla Sports car, armed with a pump-action shotgun and pistol,” Odutola said.
Odutola added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and that normalcy has been restored to the area.
