The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to kick off its campaign rally for the Ondo governorship election on the bustling Oba Adesida-Oyemekun highway, also known as the Akure Expressway.
Recall that the Ondo State Government denied the party’s request to use Democracy Park as the venue for the rally.
According to the state government, the PDP applied to use Democracy Park on October 11, 2024, but another support group had already booked and secured approval for the same date.
The government emphasized that Democracy Park is a revenue-generating property open to all citizens who apply early and follow proper procedures.
In a statement, the government noted, “The M.K.O. Abiola Park (Democracy Park) is a revenue-generating property of the state government, open to all citizens and residents who apply early and follow the proper procedures to secure approval.”
The statement also defended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, saying, “Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a refined gentleman, far too dignified to engage in the petty and indecent politicking the PDP has wrongfully accused him of”.
However, Ayo Fadaka, spokesman for the Ondo PDP Campaign Council, countered that any inconveniences caused by the rally should be blamed on the “irresponsibility of the pedestrian government”.
