The Ondo State Police Command has taken into custody Prophetess Folashade Adekola in connection with the tragic deaths of Jumoke Adesuwa and her newborn baby at her church in Akure’s Oke-Aro area.
According to reports, Jumoke died from complications related to childbirth, bleeding profusely inside the church. Unfortunately, the baby also passed away immediately after birth.
The police intervened after Jumoke’s brother reported the incident at the station.
Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest, stating, “The case was reported by the deceased’s brother, that the sister died after childbirth in the church, and the prophetess is already in custody. Investigations are still ongoing.”
A family source, who wished to remain anonymous, provided further details on the heartbreaking incident. “Someone from the church called Jumoke’s husband to inform him that his wife had given birth. When we arrived at the church, we were told the baby had died, but Jumoke was alive. However, upon seeing her, we found her in a pool of blood, bleeding heavily.”
The family rushed Jumoke to nearby hospitals, but she was rejected due to her critical condition. Ultimately, she succumbed to her injuries at the last hospital that admitted her.
The source continued, “To our surprise, when we returned to the church to collect the baby’s remains, we found the corpse in a room with extremely poor conditions, unfit for a delivery room.”
The family then reported the incident to the Oke-Aro Police Station, leading to Prophetess Adekola’s arrest.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary, pending further investigation.
