Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced the arrest of civil servants involved in pension fraud, with plans to arraign them in court soon.
During his monthly media chat at Government House Umuahia, Otti revealed that around 10 or 11 suspects have been identified, with some residing outside the country.
Otti emphasized his commitment to bringing these individuals to justice, stating, “My question is, somebody stole and I arrested him, and you went to the press to say I shouldn’t arrest a thief, that means you are a thief.”
He also confirmed that efforts are underway to repatriate those based abroad to face prosecution in Nigeria.
In addition to addressing pension fraud, Otti discussed other key issues affecting the state. He reaffirmed his decision to relocate Abia State University’s Umuahia campus to its main campus in Uturu, despite student complaints.
Otti assured that this move is in the best interest of the students and pledged to provide adequate accommodation, water, and modern facilities in Uturu.
The governor also addressed the ongoing blackout in Ohafia, highlighting the recent inauguration of the Greater Ohafia Development Authority.
Otti has instructed the State’s Commissioner for Finance and Accountant General to resolve errors in salary payments affecting some civil servants.
