A plane crash occurred in Southern California on Thursday, resulting in the loss of two lives and injuring 18 others.
The incident happened when a small plane crashed through the roof of a furniture manufacturing building in Fullerton, where at least 200 people were working.
According to Fullerton police spokesperson Kristy Wells, the identities of the deceased and whether they were in the plane or on the ground have not been confirmed.
The plane, a single-engine Van’s RV-10, took off from the Fullerton Municipal Airport and crashed less than two minutes later, as the flight-tracking website FlightAware reported.
Security camera footage from a nearby business showed the plane tilting on its side before diving into the building, causing a massive explosion and a black plume of smoke.
Firefighters and police quickly responded to the scene, battling the blaze and evacuating surrounding businesses.
Chris Villalobos, an airport operations worker, witnessed the aftermath of the crash and reported that the plane’s owner was a regular at the airport.
Villalobos stated that the pilot had informed air traffic control of an emergency landing, but the issue with the plane remained unclear.
The building, occupied by Michael Nicholas Designs, a furniture upholstery manufacturer, suffered significant damage. Ten people were hospitalized, while eight were treated and released at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
