The Taraba State Police Command successfully rescued three kidnapped individuals after a gunfight in Sibre village, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.
The rescue operation occurred on Saturday, December 7, 2024, and was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Usman, in a statement issued the following day.
The operation was initiated after a distress call alerted authorities to the abduction.
A team of operatives from the Jalingo Area Command, in collaboration with local vigilantes, pursued the kidnappers. The confrontation occurred at Dutse Mubayu near the rugged Kona Mountains, where the suspects engaged the security forces in a gun battle.
“Overpowered by the superior firepower of the police and vigilantes, the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled,” Usman revealed.
The victims, identified as 40-year-old Idris Adamu, 22-year-old Umar Usman, and 17-year-old Ibrahim Usman, were found unharmed and have since been reunited with their families. The successful rescue operation was met with relief and gratitude from the victims’ families and the local community.
The Commissioner of Police for Taraba State, Ukachi P. Opara, praised the operatives and vigilantes for their prompt and efficient action. He also directed the team to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects to ensure they face justice.
Opara emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and properties by reassuring residents of the state’s security. He urged the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative.
The commissioner shared toll-free emergency contact lines to bolster community-police relations and encourage swift reporting of criminal activities. “We are fully in control and resolute in our mission to protect the residents of Taraba State,” he stated.
