Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir, has raised concerns over the emergence of a new terrorist group, LAKURAWAS, in the state.
While receiving participants of Course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja, on a study tour, Gobir revealed that the group is a faith-based idealist with sophisticated weapons.
According to Gobir, LAKURAWAS’s criminal activities have been observed in about five local government areas, worsening the existing banditry issues.
He assured that the state government is working closely with federal security agencies to address the expanding threat.
“The state government has been working closely with Federal Security Agencies to address numerous security threats to lives and properties of the people of the state,” Gobir emphasized.
He highlighted various efforts made by the state government to confront security challenges, expressing optimism that the study tour would provide valuable insights into the nature of the unfolding criminal activities and potential solutions.
Gobir stated, “We are hopeful that this study tour will provide the required insight to the authorities on the nature of the unfolding criminal activities and proffer solutions that would guarantee security of lives and peaceful coexistence among people.”
