South African singer Tyla stole the spotlight at the 30th MTV Europe Music Awards held in Manchester, United Kingdom, on Sunday, November 10, 2024.
Tyla won three awards, making her the first African artist to achieve this remarkable feat.
Tyla’s wins include the highly coveted Best Afrobeats Artist award, where she won prominent Nigerian musicians Asake, Tems, Rema, Burna Boy, and Ayra Starr.
Additionally, she secured the Best African Act award, defeating Ayra Starr, Asake, DBN Gogo, TitoM & Yuppe, and Diamond Platnumz.
Tyla also claimed the Best R&B Artist award, surpassing renowned American artists Kehlani, SZA, Tinashe, Usher, and Victoria Monét.
Unfortunately, Ayra Starr lost all four of her nominations, including Best African Act, Best New Artist, Best Afrobeats Artist, and Best Push.
Earlier this year, Tyla made history by winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the Grammys and also secured the Best Afrobeats Artist category at the 2024 MTV Music Video Awards.
