Three people have been charged in connection with Liam Payne’s death, including a hotel worker, following an investigation by Argentine authorities.
The One Direction star passed away on October 16 after falling from a third-floor balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires.
According to the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects face charges of abandonment of a person followed by death and supply and facilitation of narcotics.
Authorities have not released the names of the suspects, but described one as the person who accompanied Payne during his stay in Buenos Aires, another as a hotel employee who allegedly supplied Payne with cocaine, and the third as a drug supplier.
The investigation revealed that Payne was likely unconscious or experiencing decreased consciousness at the time of the fall.
Authorities conducted nine raids and reconstructed Payne’s final days, including his stay at the CasaSur hotel between October 13 and 16.
Prosecutors have ruled out self-harm or physical intervention by others as contributing factors in Payne’s death. Toxicology reports showed Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant in his system in the 72 hours leading up to his death.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities analyzing cell phones, computers, and security footage to piece together the events surrounding Payne’s death.
