Tottenham Hotspur has extended Heung-Min Son’s contract, ensuring the South Korean forward and club captain will remain at the club until June 2026.
Son’s existing deal was set to expire in June, leaving Tottenham at risk of losing their prized asset on a free transfer after a decade-long spell in north London. The 32-year-old joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has since become an integral part of the team.
Rumors had been circulating about potential interest from top European clubs, including Barcelona, but Tottenham has moved swiftly to tie down their star player.
“We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Heung-Min Son’s contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026,” read a statement on Tottenham’s website.
Postecoglou praised Son’s outstanding contributions to the club, saying, “He’s already had an outstanding career at this football club. He’s played a big role in the last ten years, making an impact at the club and in the Premier League. It’s great to extend his stay.”
“The aim and ambition is to make sure he finishes his Tottenham career with some silverware,” Postecoglou said.
Son is the top-scoring Asian player in Premier League history and the third-top scorer among active players in the competition, behind only Jamie Vardy and Mo Salah.
Throughout his tenure at Tottenham, Son has scored 169 goals in 431 appearances across all competitions, cementing his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.
