With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, who departed this life in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, 2024.
According to sources close to the family, Ayilara underwent prostate cancer surgery on Wednesday, August 28, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, but unfortunately succumbed to complications hours later.
The family has confirmed his passing, stating, “We are deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved friend, brother, and family member, Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara, has passed away.”
Ayilara, a seasoned police officer, previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department.
He took the helm as Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police in February, following his deployment by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
His sudden demise has left the community in mourning.
