A fire incident occurred on the Osun/Kwara highway on Saturday evening along the Inisa/Okuku/Offa highway.
A truck carrying a large quantity of petroleum products suddenly caught fire, sparking widespread panic among motorists and residents in the area.
The fire outbreak, which occurred at an unspecified time, was still raging when footage was captured around 5:30 pm. The truck, which was left stranded in the middle of the highway, was engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Osun State Fire Service arrived at the scene to contain the fire and prevent further destruction. The operatives worked to extinguish the flames and restore normalcy to the affected area.
The spokesperson for the Osun NSCDC, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation, stating, “A thirty-three thousand litres tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit is on fire presently at Ijabe town, right on the highway which links Osun state with Kwara.”
Adeleke further explained that the cause of the fire outbreak was yet to be ascertained, adding that the incident had led to a blockage of the road, causing obstruction to vehicular movement and panic among residents, travelers, and farmers in the area.
Ibrahim Adekunle, the spokesperson for the Osun State Fire Service, also commented on the incident, stating that the situation was under control. He noted that firemen were working diligently to prevent further destruction and ensure the safety of people in the surrounding area.
