Update: Court gives verdict on Sokoto nurse who pierce newborn baby’s eyes to avenge carryover

Folade Adeshina, nursing staff of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), who injured a newborn baby to avenge a carryover, was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment with a fine option of N100,000.

Recall that in June, 2022, Adeshina was accused of piercing a patient’s newborn baby’s eye over a carryover allegation.

Hafsat Mai-akwai Lamido of the Chief Magistrate Court 6 on Thursday found Adeshina guilty of one count-charge of causing grievous injury.

The presiding magistrate, however, sentenced her to 18-month imprisonment or to pay a fine of N100,000.

The incident happened on June 15, 2021 when the baby was delivered at the hospital by her mother, a non-academic staff of the National Open University of Nigeria, Sokoto Learning Centre.
