President Bola Tinubu’s extended absence from Nigeria has raised concerns, particularly from Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election.
Obi expressed concern over Tinubu’s two-week leave, which has now elapsed, amidst the country’s economic and social challenges.
“The President had told us he would only be gone for 14 days. The 14 days have passed now, and we are waiting to see him in the country,” Obi said in a statement.
“One would have expected him to return earlier than expected, considering the volume of work that needs to be done in a troubled nation like ours.”
Tinubu initially travelled for a working vacation in the United Kingdom on October 2, but reports suggest he later traveled to Paris, France, for an important engagement.
Obi emphasized the urgency of Tinubu’s return, citing the “untold hardship” caused by his administration’s policies and the need for his attention to navigate the country out of its current situation.
“The untold hardship that has been unleashed on our people as a result of some of his administration’s policies is unimaginable, and we need his urgent attention to pilot the nation out of this present situation,” Obi stressed.
he Presidency has maintained that Tinubu’s absence has not affected governance, with the Vice President and other officials continuing to work.
