APC Has Buried Nigeria’s Democracy, Says Secondus

Prince Uche Secondus, former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed concerns about the state of Nigeria’s democracy, stating that the All Progressive Congress (APC) has “murdered and buried” it.
This comes after the recent Edo State gubernatorial election, which Secondus described as a sham with widespread electoral fraud.
Secondus believes the APC’s actions are a deliberate attempt to create a one-party state, suppressing opposition voices and undermining the democratic process.
He cited the APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s boast about applying the same tactics in upcoming elections in Ondo and Anambra states as evidence of this agenda.
Secondus emphasized that democracy relies on opposing voices to check the ruling party, but APC’s actions won’t tolerate variance views. He warned that if the Edo Election outcome stands, future elections in Nigeria will be challenging.
The former PDP boss described the election as “electoral fraud exhibited without regard for the rule of law and respect for the voters.”
Secondus further noted that with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducting sham elections in Imo, Kogi, and Edo states, and the 2023 election that “threw Nigeria under the bus,” it’s clear the APC aims to silence opposition.
He argued that the APC’s goal is to muzzle opposition parties, effectively creating a one-party state.
Secondus stated, “The beauty of democracy is the opposing voices that help to check the ruling party, but APC is set to ground Nigeria with their misrule yet won’t tolerate variance views.” He reiterated that Nigeria’s democracy is “sitting on the keg of gunpowder” because of rigging.
