The office of Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, was sealed off by a heavy police presence on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
The office, located on Osadebe Avenue in Benin, had been relocated from the Government House due to the ongoing standoff between Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Police presence was observed at the site, with a machine gun-mounted police truck and three officers stationed at the entrance.
The entry gate to the office remained closed, and access was completely restricted.
Staff members of the deputy governor’s office were instructed to report to the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Agency instead, with official vehicles, including the Press Crew bus, relocated to the office of the Head of Service within the Government House.
According to a staff member of the Deputy Governor’s office, “We were told to resume in JOOPSA on Thursday, and we did the same on Friday. We’ll also do that on Monday.”
This comes amidst the controversy surrounding Shaibu’s reinstatement as Deputy Governor.
The Edo State House of Assembly has appealed the judgment nullifying his impeachment and filed a stay of execution pending appeal.
However, Shaibu has announced his official resumption to office, citing adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
