The Nigerian Military has recorded significant successes in its fight against oil theft and terrorism.
Troops deployed to the South-South region recovered 602,200 litres of stolen crude oil, 64,900 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil, and 12,690 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, valued at N793 million.
According to the recoveries were made during various operations conducted in the last week. The military also arrested 18 suspected oil thieves and destroyed 44 illegal refining sites.
In addition to the recoveries, troops discovered and destroyed four dugout pits, 48 boats, three speedboats, 156 drums, and 34 storage tanks. Other items recovered include 28 cooking ovens, eight vehicles, one motorcycle, one tricycle, and 44 illegal refining sites.
In the Northern parts of the country, counter-terrorism operations yielded impressive results. Troops neutralized 118 terrorists, arrested 97 persons, and rescued 96 kidnapped hostages.
The military also recovered 87 assorted weapons and 2,244 assorted ammunition. These items include one PKT gun, one PKM, one RPG, one auto pistol, 43 AK47 rifles, 14 fabricated rifles, 14 Dane guns, five pump action guns, six AK47 magazines, and three briefing radios.
Other recovered items include 1,715 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 505 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, eight rounds of 9mm ammo, 14 live cartridges, 89 empty cases of 7.62mm ammo, 10 vehicles, 33 motorcycles, 50 mobile phones, and N778,560.
