The Sokoto State Government has taken a step to combat banditry and other forms of criminality in the state by constructing a military base in Illela town.
According to Dr. Bashir Achida, Economic Adviser to the state governor, this move is part of the government’s efforts to address the security challenges in the northwest and the country at large.
Achida emphasized that the military base will support military operations in the fight against banditry, ultimately securing the lives and properties of citizens.
He noted that Sokoto state’s strategic position as a major agrarian area and its international boundary makes it vulnerable to banditry and other anti-social activities.
To enhance security, the state government has provided 140 operational vehicles to support security agencies in fighting criminality and banditry.
Additionally, major roads are being constructed to make rural communities accessible to the military.
The community guards, established earlier by the state government, have been equipped with 700 motorcycles and 40 Hilux vehicles to complement the military’s efforts.
The Nigerian Air Force has also launched renewed offensives against bandits, destroying camps and neutralizing several bandits.
The Sokoto State Government has commended the Nigerian Military’s efforts to combat banditry and restore peace in the region.
