A housewife, Barkisu Sulaiman, was arrested for allegedly dumping her newborn baby into a drainage in Karaworo-Lokoja.
The arrest was made possible by a tip-off from a close friend of Barkisu, who was deeply moved by the baby’s condition.
According to reports, Barkisu’s friend confided in an elderly man in Karaworo-Lokoja, revealing that Barkisu had been carrying a seven-month pregnancy for one of her ailing husband’s servants residing in Adankolo-Lokoja. This revelation led residents to take action against Barkisu.
Barkisu allegedly confessed to throwing her one-day-old baby into the gutter, citing infidelity as the reason.
The baby’s father, who is currently at large, had denied responsibility for the pregnancy and advised Barkisu to terminate it.
The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Paul Igweibuke, confirmed Barkisu’s arrest, stating, “She is in our custody, and an investigation is in progress.”
