Donald Trump has ruled out a second US presidential debate with Kamala Harris, despite Fox News offering to host a debate later this month before the election day on November 5.
Trump and Harris have faced off only once in September, and it seems they won’t meet again before the vote.
Trump took to his Truth Social media platform to announce his decision, saying “It is very late in the process, (early) voting has already begun — there will be no rematch!”
He also stated that Harris wouldn’t do anything different from Joe Biden, so there’s nothing to debate.
Harris had previously challenged Trump to a debate on CNN on October 23, but Trump declined.
Trump also claimed that Harris backed out of a previous debate offered by Fox, although the Harris campaign hadn’t publicly accepted the proposal.
The two candidates did agree to debate on ABC News on September 10, and their vice presidential running mates, J.D. Vance and Tim Walz, squared off on October 1.
However, Trump said he had agreed to participate in debates on Fox and NBC News, which Harris never did.
After receiving positive reviews for her performance in the first debate, Harris expressed interest in a second debate, but the plans never materialized. Fox News sent letters to both campaigns offering “one final pitch for a debate” on either October 24 or October 27, allowing each candidate to make their closing arguments, as stated by Jay Wallace, president of Fox News Media.
