Kylian Mbappé, the captain of France’s national team and Real Madrid forward, has recently been involved in a controversy surrounding allegations of rape in Stockholm.
His representatives have vehemently denied these allegations, calling them “totally false” and “a slanderous rumour”.
According to Swedish prosecutors, an investigation into the alleged rape has been opened, but they have not identified a suspect.
However, Swedish media outlets, including SVT, Expressen, and Aftonbladet, citing unnamed sources, have reported that Mbappé is the suspect in question.
Mbappé’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, has stated, “We do not know who the complaint is against, I do not know if the complaint is targeting him”.
She further emphasized that Mbappé is never alone and never exposed to risk-taking situations, making it impossible for him to engage in reprehensible behavior.
Canu-Bernard also mentioned that Mbappé would cooperate with the Swedish justice system if directly targeted by the investigation.
Mbappé took to social media, posting “Fake News!!!!” in response to the allegations.
The incident allegedly occurred during Mbappé’s private trip to Stockholm with friends, and a report was filed with the police by an unidentified victim the following day.
The Swedish Prosecution Authority confirmed that a criminal report had been submitted to the police regarding the suspected rape.
Senior prosecutor Marina Chirakova declined to comment further on the matter.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has reportedly held a crisis meeting regarding the allegations. Mbappé trained with his teammates on Tuesday, but the club has not commented on whether they are aware of the investigation or have been contacted by Swedish authorities.
