The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has suspended two of its ministers, Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa, due to allegations of homosexuality involving young church members.
The church has continued to take action by launching a comprehensive investigation and encouraging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
In a statement titled “RCCG Addresses Allegations Against Youth Ministers,” Pastor Sunday Akande, RCCG’s National Overseer, emphasized the church’s commitment to upholding biblical principles and addressing the allegations with seriousness.
Akande stated, “We encourage anyone with pertinent evidence that could assist our investigation to come forward. Please note that only substantiated evidence directly related to this case will be considered; other submissions will not be reviewed.”
To facilitate the investigation, the church has provided a dedicated email address (rccgadm@gmail.com) and phone number (09039000700) for submitting evidence. Akande assured that the church values transparency and will not tolerate actions contradicting its core values.
Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello has responded to the allegations, denying any wrongdoing in an Instagram post titled “My Response to the Allegation of Sodomising Teenagers.” He clarified that a viral WhatsApp message was taken out of context, intended for teaching purposes within a male teenagers’ group.
AdeBello stated, “I have never sodomised or had sex with any male teenager, nor have I had any sexual interactions with Mr. Jedidiah or proposed sex to him for any reason.” He emphasized that the WhatsApp message was mischievously quoted out of context to portray him falsely.
The investigation, expected to conclude within two weeks, will determine the outcome for the suspended ministers. RCCG’s stance on homosexuality is rooted in biblical passages such as Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.
RCCG is one of Nigeria’s largest Christian organizations.
