The umbrella body of Delta Ijaw Youth Council under the leadership of Comrade Botuboh Clement Francis has on Monday called on the attention of Ijaw-speaking indegenes of Delta State and the Government of Delta State to see reasons why the 8th Delta State House of Assembly should consider a representative of Bomadi Local Government as Speaker of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly.
Comrade Francis lamented that Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State has been neglected especially in terms of State functions and worst still in terms of State legislative business.
He called on the people of Delta South to support the move for a Bomadi indegene to be the consensus candidate of Delta South in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice for the position of Speaker of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly.
“Burutu Local Government Area has tasted and benefitted from the Speakership position when our leader, Rt. Hon. Solomon Funkekeme was the Speaker of the House. Also, Patani Local Government Area has benefitted via Rt. Hon. Basil O. Ganagana when he was Deputy Speaker and later Acting Speaker. The Warri axis currently has the position of Deputy Governor (outgoing),” Comrade Francis said.
“For the continuation of the progress being experienced in Delta State, the 8th Delta State House of Assembly will need a competent, God-fearing and capable hand. After looking at the various options, the Ijaw Youths Council has decided to endorse Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Kenneth Oboro Preyor from Bomadi Local Government Area for the position of Speaker of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly. Rt. Hon. Preyor is a third-term Member and now a fourth-term Member-Elect and is a ranking Member of the Delta State House of Assembly.
“The endorsement came on the heels of the fact that he is a hardworking lawmaker and representative who has usually put the interest of the Ijaw nation and Delta State as his top priorities. He was in fact re-elected for his fourth tenure as representative of Bomadi Local Government Area because of his tireless efforts and passion for community development among many other qualities that in fact qualify him to be Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly,” Comrade Francis further said.
Comrade Francis urged all of Ijaw-speaking Delta State and Delta South and all the good people of Delta State and all the Member-Elects to support Rt. Hon. Preyor for the position of Speaker of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly on account of his records and good qualities and the fact that he is by virtue of his re-election for fourth tenure in the House, the most ranking Member who of course understands the job of legislative business already and who will be able to lead the House in a way that the ongoing progress in the State will be easily sustained.
