In Cross River State on Thursday evening, gunmen attacked a quarry site, killing a police inspector and kidnapping two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian.
The inspector, whose name has not been disclosed, was shot dead and his AK-47 rifle with Breech No. BE-35-2982 was stolen.
According to SP Nelson Okpabi, Zone six Police PRO, the gunmen, dressed in military camouflage, invaded the Marksino quarry camp in Akamkpa LGA around 5:20 pm. The attack was facilitated by a security breach by a civilian worker at the gate.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police for zone six, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators. “The AIG commiserates with the slain inspector’s family, relatives, and friends. He has resolved not to rest until the victims are released and justice is served,” Okpabi stated.
AIG Towuru has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zonal Criminal Investigation Department, to investigate the incident and ensure the safe release of the kidnapped victims.
