A bandit attack has left nine people dead and one critically injured in Dan Tudu, a community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The incident occurred late Sunday night, December 1, 2024.
Eyewitness accounts and local sources reveal that heavily armed bandits attached the community at night abducted residents, and looted valuables. The attackers, reportedly operating with calculated precision, targeted livestock, money, and personal belongings before retreating with their captives into the surrounding forest.
According to a resident who narrowly escaped the assault, “It was a nightmare. They stormed the village, firing indiscriminately. Families were torn apart as men and women were dragged away by the attackers. The cries of the children and the chaos were unbearable.”
Zagazola Makama confirmed that intelligence sources have linked the attack to notorious criminal gangs operating in the region. Groups led by infamous bandit leaders such as Saidu Zango, Bello Turji, and Jammo Baki, who are known to have established a stronghold in the Gangara axis, are believed to be responsible for the assault.
Local leaders and residents are calling on both state and federal authorities to strengthen security forces in the region, deploy more personnel, and take decisive action to dismantle the networks of these criminal syndicates.
