German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is set to arrive in Nigeria today, December 10, 2024, for a two-day state visit which aims to strengthen the relationship between Nigeria and Germany, with a focus on political, economic, and cultural cooperation.
During his visit, President Steinmeier will meet with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Alieu Omar Touray.
These meetings will provide a platform for discussions on key issues affecting the region, including economic development, security, and regional integration.
In addition to his official meetings, President Steinmeier will also engage with business representatives, visit a start-up hub, and meet with members of Nigeria’s culture sector and civil society in Lagos. This will provide an opportunity for him to gain insight into Nigeria’s thriving business and cultural landscape.
President Steinmeier’s visit is also expected to promote German business interests in Nigeria. He will be accompanied by a delegation of CEOs and high-ranking board members from some of Germany’s most successful companies in the fields of IT, high-tech, and energy. This delegation will explore opportunities for investment and partnership in Nigeria, highlighting the growing interest of German businesses in the Nigerian market.
As stated by the German Embassy, “This visit sends a strong signal: Nigeria is an important political, economic and cultural partner of Germany in Africa.” This visit is expected to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Germany, promoting cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.
