The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence that Nigerians will kick out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) like how Ghanaians voted out the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In Ghana’s presidential election, held on Saturday, former President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) defeated Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate of the ruling NPP. The Electoral Commission of Ghana announced Mahama’s victory on Monday evening, reporting that he secured 6.3 million votes, amounting to 56.5 percent of the total votes cast. Mahama, who previously served as president from 2012 to 2017, is set to return to the presidency.
Reacting to Mahama’s victory, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba issued a statement applauding the outcome as a testament to the power of the people triumphing over misrule and oppressive governance.
Ologunagba emphasized that the Ghanaian election results should serve as a warning to the APC in Nigeria.
“The victory of John Mahama is a clear signal to the APC that its days in power are numbered. Nigerians, like the people of Ghana, will rise against oppressive rule and return our country to the path of good governance, security, political stability, and economic prosperity under the PDP platform in 2027,” Ologunagba asserted.
“Under the PDP, Nigeria was a preferred destination for international foreign investment and one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. The APC has reduced the nation to its knees, with its citizens facing worsening poverty and uncertainty,” Ologunagba said.
He further alleged that while ordinary Nigerians endure hardship, APC leaders are indulging in opulence, imposing heavy taxes, and exploiting the nation’s treasury.
“APC leaders remain unaccountable, imposing harsh taxes on Nigerians while recklessly looting the nation’s treasury to finance their extravagant lifestyles. They have shown blatant disregard for the suffering of Nigerians, treating them as though they are a conquered people,” Ologunagba added.
Ologunagba reiterated that the PDP remains committed to rescuing Nigeria from the grip of the APC. He assured Nigerians that the party would work to restore good governance, economic progress, and stability.
“The people of Ghana have shown us that the power of the electorate is supreme. Nigerians will follow suit, and the APC’s oppressive rule will come to an end,” he concluded.
