A reckless driver killed Kehinde Fabunmi, a Level Four officer of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) on Saturday in Agbowo, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The driver, who was behind the wheel of a Black 4matic Benz with number plate LSD 862 JS, reportedly disobeyed traffic light rules, leading to the fatal accident.
Fabunmi, who was performing his lawful duties to ensure the safety of motorists and commuters, was hit by the vehicle when the driver attempted to flee the scene.
The OYRTMA officer sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received treatment. Unfortunately, he was later pronounced dead at another hospital within the Ibadan metropolis.
The Oyo State Government has condemned the incident and vowed to prosecute the driver found culpable in Fabunmi’s death.
The OYRTMA Chairman, Adekoya Adesagba, expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and said;
“OYRTMA officers are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of lives and property. Anyone who assaults or disrespects them will face the full wrath of the law,” Adesagba stated. He also emphasized that the suspect will be prosecuted, saying, “No one who disrespects or assaults our officers will go unpunished.”
The suspect has been arraigned at the Magistrate Court, Iyaganku, and remains in police custody. The case has been adjourned till Thursday.
