A Howo tipper truck suffered a brake failure, resulting in the death of a yet-to-be-identified female pedestrian in Lagos today, December 17, 2024. The accident happened at the Iyana Ishasi U-turn inward Mile 2, where the truck lost control and rammed into the woman, who was standing by the road.
According to preliminary investigations by the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), the truck was attempting to navigate through traffic at an excessive speed when the brake failure occurred.
This resulted in a complete loss of vehicular control, causing the truck to veer off its path and strike the innocent pedestrian, resulting in her death.
Intervention by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials, in collaboration with LASTMA operatives, ensured effective management of the incident. Security reinforcement was provided by officers from the Ishasi Police Division to facilitate the ongoing rescue operation.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident, extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. “I pray for divine fortitude to withstand this irreplaceable loss,” he said.
Mr. Bakare-Oki also reiterated the imperative for all motorists to uphold safety-consciousness at all times.
