A devastating series of attacks occurred on Tuesday night in the Daffo and Kwatas communities of Bokkos local government area in Plateau State, resulting in the loss of at least seven lives, according to sources.
Before the attacks, concerned residents had taken to social media to appeal for assistance, warning of potential attackers lurking in the area.
Unfortunately, the assailants succeeded in carrying out their deadly plans at approximately 7 pm.
Major Samson Zhakom, Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, indicated that he was awaiting further information on the incident before providing a comment.
The Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, representing the affected communities, confirmed that the area has been subjected to persistent attacks since May 2024.
Chairman Farmasum Fuddang expressed deep sorrow and frustration, stating:
“We are appalled by the resurgence of brutal attacks targeting ethnic minorities in Bokkos Local Government Area. Despite peace agreements facilitated by the Nigerian military, our community has suffered at least 30 murders and over 1,000 crop farm destructions since May 2024.
“We feel betrayed by those entrusted with our protection. The latest assaults in Daffo and Kwatas have claimed the lives of close to 10 of our members. These simultaneous attacks on September 3 followed a week of isolated incidents resulting in 16 deaths.”
The attack in Daffo began around 7 pm, targeting peaceful residents in a commercial area near a military base.
The perpetrators, identified as Fulani-speaking terrorists, launched a brazen attack, leaving at least seven people dead. Concurrent attacks in Kwatas and Ambul-Barkish claimed an additional four lives.
