Abia State Government has announced plans to implement the new minimum wage for its workers starting October 2024.
This move fulfills Governor Alex Otti’s promise to Abia workers, demonstrating the current administration’s commitment to their welfare.
The payment will cover all categories of workers, ensuring that everyone benefits from this development.
Prince Okey Kanu, Commissioner for Information, disclosed this information during a press briefing in Umuahia, highlighting the administration’s focus on worker welfare.
In related news, the state government will commence constructing ultramodern court halls in each of the 17 Local Government Areas within two weeks.
This project aims to ensure the smooth administration of justice. Additionally, Governor Otti will flag off the construction of a 19.4-kilometer road in Isiala Ngwa North and South LGAs under the RAMP project.
Abia State has also recorded impressive achievements in education and sports. The state topped the National Examination Council (NECO) results, attributing this success to ongoing reforms in the education sector. In sports, Abia won 31 medals, including seven gold, 12 silver, and 12 bronze medals, at the Under 15 National Youth Games in Delta State.
The administration’s investments in sports development are yielding fruit, with six young players currently training in Hungary and others securing opportunities in Europe and the United States.
