A dramatic incident occurred, as A cargo aircraft belonging to Allied Air crash-landed due to a malfunctioning landing gear at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) in Abuja on Wednesday, December 11th.
Fortunately, all six crew members on board were promptly evacuated and are currently undergoing medical assessments.
According to Zagazola Makama, a renowned Lake Chad Basin counterterrorism and insurgency expert, the incident was a result of the failure of one of the aircraft’s landing gears.
Makama shared the details of the incident on his X handle, stating that the crew members were safely evacuated and are receiving medical attention at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit.
Makama’s post read: “Emergency responders acted swiftly to secure the crash site, cordoning off the area under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) and other relevant agencies.”
The incident has resulted in the temporary closure of the airport’s runway, causing significant delays to inbound and outbound flights. Passengers and airlines have been advised to expect disruptions until further notice.
Airport authorities and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) are working to remove the disabled aircraft and inspect the runway for potential damage.
Makama concluded his post by stating, “Further updates will be provided as investigations into the incident progress.”
