James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu, hosts of the popular podcast Shxtsngigs, have issued a heartfelt apology for their involvement in “racist jokes” on a rival show.
The duo faced widespread criticism for laughing along with comments made by US comedian Andrew Schulz on his Flagrant podcast, which perpetuated harmful stereotypes about black women.
During their July 17 appearance on Flagrant, Schulz made remarks about the “black girlfriend effect,” inspiring a TikTok trend where mixed-race couples shared transformation photos.
However, the conversation took a problematic turn when Schulz joked about black women being overly emotional and aggressive.
Listeners condemned the jokes, accusing Schulz of perpetuating the “angry black woman” trope.
James and Fuhad faced criticism for not speaking out against the remarks.
On their podcast, they acknowledged their mistake, expressing remorse for laughing along and not challenging Schulz.
“We were wrong, and there’s no excuse,” James said.
“We let our community down.”
Fuhad added, “We don’t condone or appease that behavior. We don’t rate it.”
Fan Jorden Berkeley expressed disappointment, saying, “Black women are fed up of being the butt of racism disguised as jokes.” She criticized James and Fuhad for not pushing back against Schulz’s remarks.
James and Fuhad acknowledged their responsibility as influencers, recognizing the harm caused by their inaction.
“We hold our hands up, we apologize,” Fuhad said. “You learn from your mistakes, and we hope we don’t let our community down again.”
