Bandits reportedly killed a man identified as Mallam Danjuma from Kontagora, the headquarters of Kontagora LGA.
Despite receiving a ransom of ₦20 million from his family, the kidnappers held Danjuma captive for three weeks before ending his life. The tragic news was brought to his family by a fellow captive who managed to escape the kidnappers’ den.
Yahaya Suleiman, a Kontagora resident, lamented the rising frequency of abductions in the area. “Kidnapping has become a daily reality in parts of Kontagora over the past few weeks,” he said.
Confirming the attack, Niger State Police Command spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun stated, “On November 16, at approximately 3 PM, vigilante members from Wamba and Yan-Sakai communities were ambushed by suspected kidnappers within the Makogi/Ungwan Elbi axis. Sadly, the incident resulted in the loss of lives.”
Abiodun assured residents that joint security forces, including police and military tactical teams, have been mobilized to the affected area. “The objective is to prevent further occurrences and to ensure the safety of farmers during the harvest season,” he said.
