The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sounded the alarm on a potentially hazardous product – Nivea Black & White Invisible Roll-on Deodorant, 50ml, batch number 93529610.
This product is being recalled due to an alert from the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products.
According to NAFDAC, this specific deodorant contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, a chemical strictly prohibited in cosmetic products due to its alarming potential to harm reproductive health and impair the well-being of unborn children.
This chemical can also cause severe skin irritation and burns.
“The recalled Nivea product is a serious concern, especially in African climates where consumers rely on effective deodorants,” NAFDAC stated. Notably, the product in question was manufactured in Germany and bears the bar code number 42299882.
NAFDAC is urging importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise extreme caution and vigilance to prevent the sale and use of the affected deodorant. “Members of the public in possession of the affected batch should cease sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office,” the agency advised.
