Gunmen abducted Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, parish priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Parish in Obollo Community, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria.
According to church authorities, the kidnapping occurred on Tuesday night around 6 pm while Fr. Azubuike was returning from an assignment in Ayayi community.
The Catholic Diocese of Okigwe confirmed the incident in a statement signed by Chancellor/Secretary, Very Rev. Fr. Princewill Iwuanyanwu:
“I am directed to inform you that one of our priests, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Azubuike, was kidnapped this evening, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at about 6 pm. We solicit your fervent prayers that he may come back to us safe and sound while trusting in your goodwill and solidarity.”
The Imo State Police Command has initiated an investigation to rescue the abducted priest. Henry Okoye, the state police spokesman, assured that efforts are underway to ensure Fr. Azubuike’s safe return.
The Catholic Diocese of Okigwe and the broader community are calling for prayers and support during this challenging time, hoping for Fr. Azubuike’s swift and safe release.
