The Crack Squad of the Area Command in Ughelli, Delta State, apprehended five individuals suspected of kidnapping at a notorious brothel and criminal hideout in Ewu Community.
The suspects were taken into custody on September 12, 2024, at approximately 1:30 am. During the raid, police recovered a cache of illicit items, including:
A single-barrel gun, three locally-made cut-to-size guns, N450,000 in cash, a Moniepoint POS machine, an OPAY POS machine, and parcels of suspected Indian hemp.
The arrested individuals, identified as Dominic Uweru (aka Ovwolo), 48, Isaac Oghenerukevwe (aka Plug), 34, Oviri Godstime, 25, Junior Sunday, Efedeki Adjovo confessed to involvement in various armed robbery and kidnapping operations in Ughelli and surrounding areas.
According to SP Bright Edafe, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects admitted to kidnapping a 70-year-old woman (name withheld) on September 8, 2024, and collecting a ransom of N7.9 million before releasing her on September 10, 2024.
“The suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing,” Edafe confirmed in an official statement.
